Overall winners on the day were Steve Walker (Coonamble Club) was the shoots high gun and AA grade winner, Goolma club shooter Oliver Rodgers won the A grade division, with Warren shooters Douglas Ferguson taking B grade, and Ashley Bell C grade.

The clubs AGM was held in December. Congratulations to the new Warren Gun Cub executive members with David O’Brien taking over the President’s role from Don Williamson our hard working outgoing President.
Don is taking over the Secretary’s role on a transitional basis. Don will be ably supported by Fiona Soulsby who will manage Treasury and Finance. Mark Ticehurst is the new Shoot Marshal.

Many thanks to last year’s executive and committee who have left the club in a sound position financially and competitively.

The next feature event is the Ernie Wills Memorial shoot that incorporates the NSW Western Zone Night Double Rise Championship, to be held on Saturday the 13th of February.

The club welcomes visiting shooters and members old and new, with Brian Greenaway becoming the latest member.

Around the Traps: October

Saturday the 10th of October saw Warren Gun Club host 3 squads of shooters in warm conditions with a light wind to shoot 4 events.
The 2 draw card events were the 30 Target Handicap Championship, and the Tom Wild Memorial Handicap shoot-off.

The Tom Wild Memorial Trophy began in 1955 and has been held every year since. It is an annual handicap competition where a ‘possible’ (full event score) must be shot at one of the monthly club shoots to qualify for the October Final, and is one of Warren’s longest running annual sporting competitions.

This year’s Tom Wild Memorial final was contested by 4 shooters- Warren’s Ben Wild, Doug Ferguson, David O’Brien and Michael Vallett (Coonamble) who all had a very brief shoot off with only a target between each shooter. David O’Brien gladly won the event and the prize money was split between the shooters.

The 30 Target Handicap Championship was won by B-Grader Doug Ferguson with a score of 29/30. For his efforts Doug was also awarded another metre on his handicap.

The Overall High Gun was also won by soon to be A-Grader Doug Ferguson with 97/105. Ben Wild took the AA-Grade with 95/105, Brett Williamson A-Grade with 86/105, Doug Ferguson B-Grade and Ashley Bell C-Grade with 73/105.

Next month’s shoot is the second Saturday of the month at 1pm and includes the Double Rise Championship.

Around The Traps: August

The Warren Gun Club held its monthly shoot in cloudy conditions on Saturday the 8th of August. Winter weather took its toll with only 16 shooters competing over four events.

Three squads shot for trophies cash and accumulated points in a 20 Target Double Barrel, 20 Target Points Score, 25 Target Tom Wild Memorial Handicap and the challenging 20 Target Double Trap.

Warren shooter Rodney Anderson once again stamped his authority on the day taking out the days Overall High Gun Award. Rodney’s overall score included a commendable 30/40 points in the Double Trap event.

Brett Williamson was as reliable as ever with a 24 out of 25 in the handicap event. Three generations of the late Tom Wild were there to support the event although it will be a year or two before the last generation competes.

Kyle Walton who has been in great form of late drew with Steve Walker in the AA Grade High Gun score (the shooters decided to share the prize rather than go to an elimination shoot off).

Ever Improving shooter Douglas Ferguson Took out the combined B and C Grade High Gun and found time to lent his hand to the tally room to compile the scores when required.

A big thank you to the women’s committee who delivered welcome sustenance and also the Groundsmen who cut through metre-high weed to reveal the grounds and trap layouts prior to the shoot.

Several Club member’s will compete in the Cobar Two Day shoot next weekend and we wish them. Well, Go Warren.

The next Warren Gun Club shoot will take place at the club range on Saturday the 12th of September at 1pm. It’s a day of Continental events with-

25T Ball Trap
20T Point Score Continental Cash Divide
20T Single Barrel Continental
30T DB Continental Championship
25T Tom Wild Handicap

New shooters are welcome and old shooters who have dropped off a bit of late are encouraged to dust off the 12 gauge and show your support.
