Around the Traps: February ‘Ernie Wills Memorial’

The Warren Gun Club hosted the 19th year of the Ernie Wills Memorial Shoot on the 14th.
44 shooters travelled from afar to contest this major day of shooting for the Warren Gun Club.

The ‘Ernie Wills Memorial Trophy’ is won by the most consistent shooter of the day, and this year was won by local shooter Rodney Anderson shooting a 131/135 for the day.
Rodney was fortunate to win a lovely commemorative glass and cash for his efforts, as well as being presented the memorial cup by Ernie’s brother Mark and sister in law Deb, who had travelled from Nelson Bay especially to attend the occasion.
The club would like to sincerely thank the Wills family for continuing to support this event, and letting us have the honour of contesting a major shoot in the name of ‘Ern’, who was a great and valued club member.

During the day, the main event the Double Barrel Championship was hotly contested, with Orange CTC shooter David Player winning following a very brief shoot-off. David also received a lovely commemorative glass and cash for the win.

Following a lovely dinner provided by the Warren Gun Club, the club then hosted the NSW Western Zone Night Double Rise Championship. This event was contested by 36 shooters, with Steven Walker from Arnhem Gun Club taking the win.
Steve shot an impressive 28 from 30 clays, in very trying conditions – as it was blowing a gale.
