Around The Traps: August

The Warren Gun Club held its monthly shoot in cloudy conditions on Saturday the 8th of August. Winter weather took its toll with only 16 shooters competing over four events.

Three squads shot for trophies cash and accumulated points in a 20 Target Double Barrel, 20 Target Points Score, 25 Target Tom Wild Memorial Handicap and the challenging 20 Target Double Trap.

Warren shooter Rodney Anderson once again stamped his authority on the day taking out the days Overall High Gun Award. Rodney’s overall score included a commendable 30/40 points in the Double Trap event.

Brett Williamson was as reliable as ever with a 24 out of 25 in the handicap event. Three generations of the late Tom Wild were there to support the event although it will be a year or two before the last generation competes.

Kyle Walton who has been in great form of late drew with Steve Walker in the AA Grade High Gun score (the shooters decided to share the prize rather than go to an elimination shoot off).

Ever Improving shooter Douglas Ferguson Took out the combined B and C Grade High Gun and found time to lent his hand to the tally room to compile the scores when required.

A big thank you to the women’s committee who delivered welcome sustenance and also the Groundsmen who cut through metre-high weed to reveal the grounds and trap layouts prior to the shoot.

Several Club member’s will compete in the Cobar Two Day shoot next weekend and we wish them. Well, Go Warren.

The next Warren Gun Club shoot will take place at the club range on Saturday the 12th of September at 1pm. It’s a day of Continental events with-

25T Ball Trap
20T Point Score Continental Cash Divide
20T Single Barrel Continental
30T DB Continental Championship
25T Tom Wild Handicap

New shooters are welcome and old shooters who have dropped off a bit of late are encouraged to dust off the 12 gauge and show your support.

Around the Traps: June

The Warren Gun Club held its monthly shoot on Saturday the 13th of June. Weather conditions on the day were mostly favourable however cloud and diminishing light made the last two events a bit of an extra challenge.

Event two was the mixed target event where shooters shoot 15 targets double barrel, 15 targets single barrel and another 15 targets with points awarded for clays hit with the first or second shot respectively. This event has added difficulty for the C graders because it was shot from 18 metres instead of their normal 15 metre handicap mark however most shot credible scores.

The shoot was reasonably well attended with four squads of locals strengthened by visiting shooters from Hermidale, Narromine, Gold Coast and Albury Clubs.

The ball trap event (love it or loath it) was shot as the daylight began to fade. The targets are faster

than most other events and come out of the trap at greater angles with more elevation variables-
“From daisy cutters to shooting stars” someone said with a touch of frustration.

The overall High Gun for the day and AA Grade winner was Max Betts with a score of 139.
Other grades were won by Rodney Anderson A Grade, Douglas Ferguson B Grade, and Mark Forgione C Grade.

The next Shoot is Saturday the 11th of July at 1pm.
New shooters are most welcome and there are plenty of willing coaches to help novices and improvers alike.

Around the Traps- May

On the 9th of May the Warren Gun Club held its monthly shoot. In good shooting conditions a mix of experienced shooters, novices, juniors and try-hards shot for the honours on a five-event programme.

High Gun on the day was A Grade shooter Brett Williamson who accumulated 122 points.

The club welcomed Lachlan Hunt, a new junior who steps up to the traps as a third generation representative of the Hunt family to take up the sport.

Numbers were down slightly as the Cunnamulla Gun Club’s Two Day shoot- held on the same weekend- drew off some of Warren’s more regular shooters.

Of interest the Warren Gun Club was visited by Inspectors from the NSW Firearms Registry Authority in the week prior to the shoot and they were satisfied with the WGC’S legal conformance.

Winners on the day were-
AA Grade Malcolm Stephens,
A Grade and Overall High Gun Brett Williamson,
B Grade Douglas Ferguson and
C Grade Mark Forgione.

The Warren Gun Clubs next shoot is at 1.00pm on Saturday the 13th of June and all new shooters and visitors are most welcome.
